Journalist Humbled by Community Support

By Gwen Snell

Four months ago I was provided an opportunity to contribute as a Freelance Journalist for The Hanna Sentinel.

Admittedly, I was cautious about stepping into the role and being able to provide a consistent level of writing that was relevant.

Encouragement from Publisher Kate Winquist, and a friendly coffee with Sales Manager Harland Lesyk was the nudge I needed.

Community response to the local content has been overwhelming. Since starting I have had many people tell me they enjoyed the articles. Your notes of encouragement and positive comments were both appreciated and welcomed. Many people were coming forward with ideas and suggestions for articles – and the list was growing beyond what we could physically print weekly.

These positive articles would not have been possible without those willing to open up and share their stories with me. Thank you to those who provided me with the information so freely and willingly! It was my sincere intent to provide your story as accurate and informative as possible.

Lastly, thank you to Kate Winquist for her support to me personally and for her vision to provide our community with a weekly newspaper.

While it is regrettable that the decision has been made to close, I am thankful for the time and space that was afforded to me to “tell the stories of Hanna and area through The Hanna Sentinel.”

I am humbled and honoured to have been a part of The Hanna Sentinel.
