Letter: CARBON TAX

Are the Liberals being honest about the carbon tax, or is the carbon tax needed to keep Canada afloat? Or does it sound better that it’s being used to save the world? Canada has no funds for affordability, homelessness, pharma care, dental care, armed forces, day care, health care or education. This hike in carbon tax will bring in billions to the government coffers as long as we peons can find a way to pay for it. Canadians would probably put up with the carbon tax if they thought it was being used for something important or useful. At the moment, carbon neutral is just a pipe dream. There is lots of talk from different of being carbon neutral by 2030 or 2050, but unless we can come up with a totally new power that we don’t know about at the moment, I can’t see that we can ever be totally carbon free. And I think that is a good thing because we still need carbon to grow good crops and other plant life. And electric cars don’t produce any carbon or pollution once it’s built, but the production of them certainly does. The power to run them on definitely takes more power than windmills and solar can produce. Any way you make power, it must first be made with mega amounts of oil, gas, and coal. All the components, regardless if it’s hydro, nuclear, wind, solar, hydrogen or thermal, power cannot be made without tapping into the oil, gas and coal industries first. It’s time to admit that the carbon tax fiasco is a colossal failure.
