Oyen and District Seniors Report: Delicious Pot Luck Meal

Submitted by Beth Symes

Thirteen members joined together on March 6 for one of the most delicious and varied pot luck meals of the current season.  Everyone enjoyed eating dishes from other kitchens which are not usually made in  their own. Thirteen people attended the meeting which followed.

Lynda called the meeting to order at 7:05.  The 50/50 draw of $20 was won by Shirley Parks.  Routine business items of business, the minutes from the past meeting and the financial reports were then presented.  Following these, we began reading and discussing the wording of the rental agreement which individuals who rent the hall will sign in the future.   Jessie will present the final form of this document at the next meeting.  It was also decided, after a long discussion, that part of the agreement in for future rentals as well as at other times the hall is being used for recreation that, the only animals that will be allowed in the hall will be licenced service dogs.

Lorraine gathered information about the Seniors Group which is necessary for establishing a Facebook page for the group.  This will be another means of sharing information about the group and advertising events and activities.

We had a further discussion about various areas in the hall which require renovation or repair and it was determined by the meeting that the bathrooms should have priority at this time.  A particular need in the bathrooms is having low volume toilets installed.  There will be an exploration of what grants might be available for this type of renovation.  Again we also discussed the possible ways of using the balance of the media grant which remains.  A final decision about this will be made at the next meeting.

Pickleball is attracting more interest and more people are playing.  It is apparent that having one established time during the week as well as flexible drop in times would make the gatherings easier.  The initial time announced was Tuesday evenings, beginning on March 12.  Please contact Lorraine at 403 664 2499 further about this.

Fun Nights continue to be well attended and  the next one for members and invited guests will be held at the Seniors Recreation Centre  on March 22 at 7:00 P.M.

Our next Pot Luck and Meeting will be held April 3 at 6:00PM.  We continue to welcome new members to join us for these monthly happenings as well as the weekly recreational activities of floor curling and pickleball.
