THE DELIA GAZETTE: Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner was a sold out event!

By Lonni Pedneault

We are down to the crunch! No need for a countdown because now the days go by in a blur!

The annual Delia Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner on December 13th was a sold out event again this year! A huge tip of the toque (not to be confused with touque) to Day Lenfesty for catering and preparing the most delicious turkey dinner! And I’m not just being polite – the dinner was truly scrumptious!! Thank you Day!

People certainly love turkey dinners around here! Even the turkey bingo on Dec 5 almost packed the house! The last I heard, 46 turkeys were given away that night and we sure would like to thank the Elks for organizing these turkey bingos every year!

I found myself sitting on hay bales with several other people; men, women and children alike and being driven around Delia singing Christmas Carols on Sunday! The weather was beautiful for carolling and it was such a wonderful experience; I’m glad I decided to hop aboard and join in the merry-making. Bev Hall was wonderful and had the hot dogs and hot chocolate ready for everyone to warm us up afterwards. But I can’t forget to thank the couple, who shall remain nameless to protect their identities, for the gifts of chocolate, cookies and, um, Christmas spirit for the carollers – that was very thoughtful!

Delia School and the Library are closed from Dec 23 – Jan 7 for the Christmas Holidays/Winter Break and will reopen on Jan 8 so there will be no Pickleball during these weeks.

The Delia Curling Club is starting their Special Thursday events. Everyone is welcome to curl or watch or they can get you on a team or teach you how to curl and have some fun. Wing nights will begin in 2024. The New Year’s Cheer Spiel is Dec 29-31st. This will not be the traditional glow event but there’s talk about fireworks – stay tuned. Entries to Barry Mason or John Clayholt please.
