Lloyd Morley Anderson of Oyen, Alberta served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders (RCIC) as a Private during the Second World War. On June 6, 1944, they landed in Normandy as part of the 9th Infantry Brigade and continued to fight in North-West Europe until the end of the War.

February 22, 1945, the unit, along with the 3rd Canadian Division, nicknamed “the Water Rats”, had to clear the flooded region north of the NijmegenCalcar road, using Buffalo amphibious vehicle to capture Moyland Wood. The six days of fighting cost the division 485 men, killed, wounded or captured, having met with unexpected opposition, encountering machine-gun, mortar and shell fire.

Private Anderson died on February 22, 1945 and is commemorated in the Groesbeek War Cemetery in the Netherlands. The son of James Harry Anderson of Oyen, he was 26 years old.
