Samuel “Tiny” Henry Lemon was born May 24, 1877 at Mappowder, Dorset, England, where his father served as Rector of Mappowder. A veteran of the Anglo Boer War in South Africa, Lemon came to Canada following the war and settling near Vandyne in the Acadia Valley of southern Alberta. Married, Lemon applied for a homestead where he worked as a farmer before enlisting at Regina, Saskatchewan December 19, 1914.

Overseas with the 1st Reinforcing Draft of the 46th Battalion in July 1915, Lemon served as a Private with the Canadian Expeditionary Force attached to the 10th Battalion (Canadians) during the First World War. Landing in France in August 1915 with the 1st Canadian Division, the 10th Battalion fought in the Second Battle of Ypres in Belgium. On June 3, 1916, Private Samuel Henry Lemon died while fighting at Sanctuary Wood during the Battle of Mont Sorrel.

Missing in action, Lemon is commemorated on the Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial, Belgium. Son of Reverend John Lemon and Mary Lemon; brother of Civil, Arthur, Tory, Ada, Horace, and Ernest Lemon; husband of Ella Lemon of Earls Court, London, England; he was 39 years old.
